Lisa Saladin, Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, works on her dissertation.

Lisa Saladin, Associate Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, is a full-time faculty member and a full-time graduate student completing her doctoral dissertation, “Racial Disparities in Access to and Utilization of In-patient Rehabilitation Post-Stroke”.

Professor Saladin’s physical therapy education and employment in Canada’s socialized medical system stimulated her interest in improving access to health care in the United States. She has been a faculty member at MUSC since 1990, and during her tenure here she has been actively involved in the provision of pro bono physical therapy services to individuals with neurological disorders. She integrates these services into the physical therapy curriculum so that students are given the opportunity to become involved in service learning. In addition, she is developing a research agenda related to the examination and elimination of racial disparities in access to health care services and hopes to mentor other graduate students in this area.

In her spare time, Lisa loves to backpack in the mountains and prepare gourmet meals with her husband, Mike.
